- Marcus lekfilt
Bomullstyger i 9 olika färger läggs på hög och skärs i samma former, som sedan skiftas om så alla rutor blir olika i färgplacering. När ovansidan är hopsydd görs en ”kviltsandwich” bestående av toppen, fyllning av bomullsvadd, och foder. Det kviltas ihop för hand med merceriserat garn och slutligen kantas med ett band.
Marcus föddes i vecka 31 i år och är hans mammas första barn. Jag ville göra en fin present till honom. Den får han efter utställningen.

- Marcus’ quilt
I chose cotton calico in nine different shades. One 12” square of each was placed in a stack. Then I cut across them twice in each direction according to the pattern. Each color had 9 pieces. Then I distributed them evenly so each square had one piece of each color, sewed them together in their new positions.
Then I arranged them into a quilt top, made a quilt ”sandwich” with lining, stuffing, and pieces quilt top. I quilted them together with different colors of pearl cotton in a kind of wonky manner. Finally I finished the edge with a bias binding.
Marcus was born this year in week 31, very premature, and is the firstborn of a friend of mine. I wanted to make him a nice gift, and he will get this after the exhibit.

- Bordsduk i daldräll

Jag fick överta en vävstol för något år sedan av en kvinna vars mor hade dött innan hon hann väva färdigt. Hon hade dragit på en lång bomullsvarp och vi hittade ingen vävnota. Den var mestadels vit, med blå kanter och 6 smala blå ränder. Jag började med att räkna trådarna. Sedan bestämde jag mig för att väva daldräll. Jag räknade ut ett mönster som utnyttjade varpen. Jag köpte ett antal rullar lingarn i olika färger till inslaget och började med att provväva.

A couple of years ago there was a lady whose mother died, leaving several weaving looms in various stages of projects. She offered to let me take over a couple of them, as she did not weave herself. One had a long cotton warp with blue edges and a few narrow stripes. We could not locate any plans her mother had for that warp so I needed to create a pattern for the warp. I decided to make a pattern in daldräll, which is a popular technique in the province of Dalecarlia. Then I bought some linen yarn, in various colors, for the weft. I started doing some sampling. I decided to make the first one in blue tones. Those rolls were enough to weave 44,5 inches. There is enough warp left to weave two more tablecloths. I show the blue tablecloth as well as the sampler.

Vävd i fiskbensmönster av alpacka. Garnet är från Peru. Vit varp och blått inslag. Knuten frans. Handtvätt.

Woven in a herringbone pattern of pure alpaca from Peru. White warp and blue weft. Hemstitched fringe. Handwash.

Plockad dubbelväv
Två varpar i kontrast ger möjlighet till många fria former. Vävningen går långsamt. Vävd på fyra skaft, sex trampor och två plockspröt. Jag brukar hålla kurser i denna teknik som är en av mina favoriter.
Det latinska ordspråket ”Verba Volant, Scripta Manent” betyder ”det talade ordet förgår, det skrivna består”.
- ”Finnvävar”
Picked double weave
”Finnväv” is a type of double weave in contrasting colors with two warps interlacing each other. These are woven on a four shaft loom with six treadles and 2 pick-up sticks. It is set up with two threads of color A alternating with 2 threads of color B. Weft alternates in the same manner. Slow technique but complete freedom in pattern. Observe this does not have identical pattern on back. This is one of my favorite weaves and I offer summer courses in this technique.
The latin quote ”Verba Volant, Scripta Manent” means: the spoken word takes flight, the written word remains forever.
